The Magic of Fused Glass

Fused glass is an ancient process of using heat to join separate pieces of glass into one solid piece. Today kilns are used to make this magical process happen. In my designs, individual pieces of glass are cut from large sheets, arranged and stacked, placed into my kiln and then heated to approximately 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature the glass softens and flows into one beautiful piece of glass.

Once the piece has fused, the temperature in the kiln slowly drops to allow the glass to cool or anneal. When the piece comes out of the kiln it is perfectly flat. If shaping is desired the piece is manipulated using a mold in a second kiln firing called slumping.

The finished piece of glass art is then ready to be used and enjoyed.

We hope you enjoy exploring this site as much as we have enjoyed creating the pieces that you are about to see.
